Autumn (Fall) is here!
Well, somehow it is already November and Thanksgiving is just around the corner! Autumn is definitely my favourite time of year, I love the changing season as the leaves change colour, and I even enjoy the colder weather coming in. What I don’t enjoy is how it is already dark here by 5pm! Here, in Romania, we have had a particularly nice change to the season, with people even posting photos on the local Tinca Facebook group showing how beautiful the trees/leaves have been this year. The weather has been amazing too, sunny and warm, around 18C (65F).
Those of you who know me well will know I love food, and one of the things I have always loved about living in a different country is discovering the local foods and traditions. Romania has some incredible foods and Autumn traditions! I remember my first visit to Romania, I was invited to dinner, and they served an amazing chicken soup with lots of bread on the side. It was SO tasty, I ate 3 bowls full with plenty of bread dipped in between. Only to be told that dinner here is traditionally 2 courses with a soup followed by a main! Next thing I saw was big platters of roasted chicken legs and mashed potatoes being brought out (with more bread!). Despite being very full at that point I was able to soldier on and eat a good plateful of the main course…😂 From that point on I have known to eat a bit less of the soup, before that main course comes out!
As you enter into this Autumn and Winter, and as the weather is probably getting colder for you too, perhaps you might want to try making this Romanian chicken soup. It is a great example of traditional Romanian soups (known locally as Ciorba); Ciorba Radauteana. A sour chicken soup recipe that is quick and easy to make, and can be adjusted to throw in whatever vegetables you might have to hand. If you want to try making this soup, click the button below to get the recipe, and get in touch after here in the comments or on our socials, we would love to hear your thoughts after you try making and eating it!
One final thought; make sure you have some good bread ready to go with this soup!
So thankful for you all and how you support, bless and encourage FMN and most importantly the Roma!
Have a blessed Autumn!
Dave
