Teen Employment
Within the Roma community and culture, boys are considered “men” at the age of 10, and girls are often arranged or given in marriage between the ages of 10-15 years of age.
Though we discourage child marriages and provide other alternatives for the children, they still consider themselves to be adults and desire to be treated as such. The teen employment program rewards those teens who are committed to their education (whether through state school or home school), and allows them to receive half days of employment with FMN.
This encourages the teens to stay in the program, continue learning about a relationship with Christ, receive an education, and earn money for different items they wish to save for.
The teen employment program also protects the girls from becoming victims of trafficking and looking for money abroad. Thank you for providing a day of work and protecting a teen!
