Five for Friday – Father’s Day!
Father’s Day is this weekend (for those celebrating in the States, UK, & Canada) and whether you will get to be with your dad or father-figure in person, connect virtually, or your dad has passed and you would like to honor him…we’ve got some neat ideas to help celebrate this special day!
Start a tradition
I love creating traditions for different celebrations and the memories that they create. One fun tradition your family could enjoy would be to have an annual super soaker water fight. An “Arma-dad-don” if you will…the father of all water fights (sorry, I guess a ‘dad joke’ slipped in)! Grab a trophy (even a funny item around the house) for the event and pass it around to the winner each year. This tradition is great as the kids grow as well.
If you won’t be able to celebrate in person with your dad this Father’s Day, you could jump on Jackbox play games through Zoom. No matter what your dad’s favorite game is, you will probably find it here and be set to play a few rounds. There are lots of games that the whole family can get in on.
Perhaps your dad has passed and Father’s Day is a painful time for you. One way to honor your dad might be to host a family grill out in his honor, sharing all of his stories together with the next generation. Another would be to take your kids or spouse somewhere you enjoyed going with your dad, sharing in those memories together and making new ones.
Honor your dad
Dad’s do a lot for their families and they carry a lot on their shoulders. Let’s honor them and celebrate them by encouraging them with these Bible verses. Here’s a printable for you to remind them of how special they are and how grateful you are for them.
He is a constant teacher – Proverbs 4:1-5
He disciplines out of love – Proverbs 22:6
He is a provider – Matthew 7:9-11
He is compassionate – Psalm 103:13
He is proud of his children – Proverbs 17:6
He protects his family – Deuteronomy 1:29-31
Dad coupons for the win
I think my love language might be acts of service, because I love getting coupons for Mother’s Day…back rubs, foot rubs, organizing my closet, babysitting…I love them all and cash in on them every time! Father’s Day coupons can be from any age of “kids” for any age of dads, as well as hubby coupons. Some ideas for both dad and hubby coupons might be: a foot rub during a football game, back rubs, a round of golf with you, cleaning the grill, free lunch date, one homemade breakfast, sleep in morning, candlelit dinner, cleaning the garage, and more. You can get as creative as you want. Here’s a template for coupons!
Mason jar gifts
No matter dad’s likes…peanuts, tools, golf, etc, you can create a mason jar for the perfect DIY Father’s Day gift! Here’s a fun site with lots of mason jar ideas and printable templates to go with each one.
