Five for Friday – Fun Forgotten Holidays
June 25, 2021
Summer is upon us and while we are all making our summer plans, Cindy March (an FMN board member) shares with us 5 extra days to celebrate during July! Have fun, include others, and make them smile!

Week 1 – Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day -usually celebrated on July 1st
Make it fun! Get out the fancy dishes -break open the whipped cream and funky flavors!
Historically, Howard Johnson’s boasted 28 flavors…..Baskin Robbins claims 31. You never know….your family may create the next Ben & Jerry’s sensation!
Week 2 – Teddy Bear Picnic – July 10th
In 1907, American Composer, John W. Bratton created an instrumental song “The Teddy Bear’s Picnic” Lyrics were added by British songwriter, Jimmy Kennedy in 1930.
No rules! Inside or out…just spread out a blanket, grab some snack and your favorite Teddy!

Week 3 – Give Away Day – July 15th
We’ve always heard that it is better to give than receive. It’s true! Not only does the giver feel good it reminds us to be grateful for all of our blessings. Monetary and tangible gifts are wonderful. Get creative – give the gift of time to someone or volunteer for a need in your area. Make a gift basket for a special group or shop for your local foster closet.
Give away something and receive even more!
Week 4 – Gorgeous Grandma Day – July 23rd
Thanks to a special lady named Alice Solomon who graduated from Wellesly College at age 50 in 1984, we have this fun day. In an effort to remind society that women of “a certain age plus” should be viewed as worthy, useful and relevant.
If you still have your grandma, try to spend time with her …make a recipe she is famous for…write her letter recounting memories you cherish. If you, yourself are a Gorgeous Grandma, look in the mirror and smile…. you have the greatest job on the planet!
Week 5 – Take Your Houseplants For A Walk Day – July 27th
Ok, this is one that makes me laugh aloud! According to Happy Days 365, this is one to do for the health and well-being of those houseplants who brightened your long winter days. With the idea that most of us currently spend all our time in our outside gardens fawning over window boxes and flowering baskets, our house plants are feeling neglected! So….put that jade plant, spider plant, ivy or Christmas cactus in your little red wagon and trot around the neighborhood!….hey, you just may start a parade:)
