Five for Friday – Labor Day
It’s Labor Day weekend! The weather will start changing. School is back or begins soon, depending where you live. The college football season is upon us. Tennis and NASCAR fans will both be out in full force. Labor Day sales are whispering to us, and it marks the end of summer.
We want to make your Labor Day special with some neat ideas as you take a moment to celebrate…because you work hard and you deserve a break!
1. Labor Day Prayer
Let’s start off this Labor Day with a prayer! We want to give thanks for the employment that we have and how God provides, as well as remember those who are struggling with employment at the moment.
2. Work Place Wins
I feel like I am always looking for new programs, sites, apps, and tips to help me balance ministry and work as well as family personal time. This Labor Day, we’ve got a few quick tips to help you balance, be more productive, and stay on task.
Turn off those notifications – Drastically cut down distractions by switching off your notifications on your phone.
FocusMe Desktop App – Conquer distraction/digital addiction & become more productive.
Todoist – A great way to stay on task.
Pomodoro Technique – Breaks are the key to productivity…try out this technique to increase productivity and beat procrastination.
One Tab – Do you keep a million browser windows open, so that you can remember all you are working on only to have your computer slow down to turtle speed? This easy Chrome web extension can clear that all up.
3. Last of Summer Recipes
Labor Day weekend would not be complete without a good ol’ fashion cookout to end the summer. If you’re stuck on what to fix, whether you are hosting or heading to a BBQ, these end-of-the-summer recipes might be the perfect thing to give those taste buds one more summer treat until next year.
Grilled pineapple tofu skewers
Grilled sweet and spicy Dr.Pepper chicken wings
Grilled corn on the cob with garlic butter
Creamy tomato cucumber pasta salad
4. Catch Those Sales!
What is Labor Day weekend without the sales?!? Here is a quick link to take you to lots of great deals you can find this weekend while searching for that bargain!
5. Labor Day Scavenger Hunt
As you head off on a trip, out shopping, to a parade, or over to a BBQ, give your kids a copy of this Labor Day scavenger hunt and see who can find the most from the list.
Bonus:
As I reflect on Labor Day and also the work that we have all been given or praying to find, two verses were on my heart to share and remember. Colossians 3:23 and Proverbs 16:9 are great reminders that as we go into our places of work, ministry, volunteering, stay-at-home parent, or whatever we might do, let us do it with the heart and mindset that we are doing it for the Lord. Let our work and attitudes reflect who we are truly working for. It’s also a great reminder to hold our plans loosely that we make…lifting them up to God and asking for direction and for His will to be done. It’s so easy to plan out our lives according to our desires and run ahead of His timing…I know I have done that far too often. However, when we are in step with His leading and surrender our plans to him, there is a peace that guides us and a hope that fills us. No sweeter place to be.
Hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
Be blessed,
Rachel
