Five for Friday – Preparing for the Season
Hope you all have had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
It’s can be the start of a busy time, so here are a few Five for Friday nuggets to help make things a bit easier during this season.
1. Left overs!
Before you pull out those Thanksgiving leftovers and reheat, how about changing it up a bit. Here’s a quick and easy way to use your leftovers to make a new yummy dish for all.
2. Black Friday
Don’t want to miss out on those Black Friday deals! Here’s a link that will break those deals down for you and alert you to some specials you might want to check out.
3. December 1st Box
It’s a time of traditions and making lots of memories. One fun tradition you can do for your family or even yourself is a December 1st box. The box has all the different items to make those special memories throughout the season.
Here’s some ideas to get you started on your December 1st box:
Christmas jammies
Socks
Christmas books
Gingerbread kit
Puzzles
Craft kits
Christmas movies
Slippers
Hot cocoa packets
Cookie cutters
Popcorn for the movies
Advent calendar
Special ornament
4. Reverse Advent
An advent calendar can be a special way to prepare our hearts for the celebration of the birth of Jesus, and fun for all ages.
One different approach you can try this year is called ‘Reverse Advent’ and this includes getting a basket, and each day you choose an item to place in the basket or box, and then on Christmas Eve, you can give the basket to a local food bank, your church, or a family in need.
For younger children, here is a fun nativity Advent calendar that they can color and cut out, and learn the story of the birth of Christ.
5. Ornaments
Some of my favorite ornaments to hang on the tree growing up were those special ornaments I made in kindergarten or at church, and it was so fun to see my handcrafted ornaments on the tree. Now, those are some of my kids’ favorite ornaments as well…the ones we would make together.
Here’s a great kit to help you get started on making some special ornaments for your tree for kids of all ages!
Want to get in the spirit of giving back? Here’s a fun calendar that will lead you in 25 days of Christmas acts of kindness!
Bonus:
Beginning December 1st, read one chapter of the book of Luke in the Bible with your kids each evening (or just for you). There are 24 chapters. On Christmas Eve you will have read an entire account of Jesus’ life and wake up Christmas morning knowing WHO and WHY we celebrate!
Bonus #2:
This week we’ve launched our new Joy Beadz ornaments, which make neat Christmas gifts and bless the Roma women and teens as well. For you, our Five for Friday reader, we’d like to give you a Black Friday code to receive 15% off of the whole Forget Me Not store through Sunday. Code: JB15
Have a blessed weekend and enjoy this special time recovering from Thanksgiving and discovering the joy of celebrating the birth of Christ!
Thankful for you,
Rachel
