Five for Friday – Thankfulness Challenge
I love November. I love the fall weather, the crunchy leaves, and the month that we have to prepare our hearts for Thanksgiving. For me, it’s a perfect time for me to realign my heart and challenge myself to be grateful for the never-ending list of blessings!
Today, we’ve got 5 ways to help you cultivate a thankful November and create moments of joy in your family.
#1 There’s an app for that!
One way you can record your gratefulness is with Grateful: A gratitude journal. You will receive daily prompts (there are prompts provided or ones that you can personalize), a place to snap a picture, and an easy way to take a moment to reflect daily on your journey of thanksgiving.
#2 God Hunt
When my brother and I were growing up, my parents would play a game throughout the week with us, whether we were in the car or at the supper table, that they called “God Hunt.” It was a time to stop as a family and to share in what ways we had seen God at work that day or how had we seen God throughout our day? I understand now that my parents were trying to create an awareness of the power of God and a thankfulness in our hearts for him each day.
Try having a daily ‘God Hunt’ with your kids/grandkids and be encouraged and enlightened by their special experiences and views.
#3 Transform with Gratitude
This is a quote that I came across a couple weeks ago that blessed and challenged me, so I thought I’d share it with you.
#4 Are you up for it?!
As we head into November, it’s the perfect time to join in on a 30-day thankfulness challenge! If you are up for it, here are a few different 30-day challenges for you to choose from:
30 days of journaling/posting – For each day in November, either journal or post daily one thing that you are thankful for.
30 days to an attitude of gratitude – Take the 30-day challenge to help develop a heart of gratitude.
30 days of giving back – A great way to challenge your family to give back to others and spread that joy!
30 days of verses – Jump into Scripture, writing and reflecting on a different verse each day.
#5 Health benefits
Not only does cultivating a posture of thankfulness in our daily lives create joy in our hearts and prepare us for worship, but according to several studies, there are many health benefits as well.
*Feeling more energy – alertness, attentiveness, and determination (yes please!)
*Better sleep – not only better quality of sleep, but more of it as well!
*Less sickness- gratefulness improves your immunity!
*Make overall healthier choices!
I’m excited for the challenge of creating more of an attitude of gratitude this coming month (and hopefully beyond) and whether you join us in the 30 day challenge or not, know that we are incredibly THANKFUL for YOU! We watch God move in incredible ways here in Tinca, Romania, and we know He blesses us with your partnership, in whatever way that might look like, to fight injustice, empower those without hope, and protect those that are at-risk and vulnerable. You are creating life-change every single day and this month, we celebrate you!
Many blessings,
Rachel
