Five for Friday! April 23rd

I hope you all have been having a great week! Here are this week’s quick Five for Friday to hopefully bless your day!

Family History

I caught the genealogy bug when I was a girl and my Aunt Kathy would take me on walks through the cemetery telling me all kinds of stories about our family members buried there. I couldn’t get enough of her stories and I still love them today. If you are interested at all in family history, discovering more about those in your tree, and all of the tools and tips that are available, I would highly recommend starting off with a Youtube channel called ‘Genealogy Gems’. Each Thursday, Lisa Louise Cooke hosts a live show at 11 am EST with all kinds of great research tools, tips, and neat ways to bring your family history to life. The show is called ‘Elevenses with Lisa’ and you can catch it here!

A family movie

I’m always looking for a fun family movie that I can watch with my kiddos, and one that I have fallen in love with is ‘Enola Holmes’. Enola Holmes is available on Netflix and has a great story line, beautiful music, fun characters, and a sweet theme. It’s a fun and uplifting movie that just makes you smile when it’s over. If you get a chance, you might want to catch it this weekend. There is talk of a second movie being made, so I’m looking forward to that.  🙂 You can watch Enola Holmes here!

Sleep headphones

If you have trouble falling asleep and need to listen to things at night like calming music, sleep apps, ASMR, etc, then I would recommend grabbing yourself a pair of bluetooth sleep headphones. These will allow you to lay down comfortably, especially if you are a side sleeper, and be able to hear everything clearly. I have had this particular pair for a couple years now and they are still going strong. My five-year old son, Izaiah, sleeps in my room with me, so the headphones are perfect as they allow me to listen to the videos or relaxing music without disturbing him. There are lots of styles to choose from, but I’ve been happy with this pair featured here.

What I’m reading

A Bible study that I am currently reading with my small group at the moment is called ‘What the Women Saw’ by Jada Edwards, Bianca Juarez Olthoff, Sadie Robertson Huff, and Jennie Allen. It’s a beautiful study that is filmed on location in Israel, so it’s really amazing for them to be teaching from inside Lazarus’ tomb or at Jacob’s actual well…just makes it all that much more powerful. It’s a study that shows you who Jesus is through the perspective of women in the Bible. We get to see these women’s faith, failures, and how Jesus healed them and empowered them…just as He does for us now. It has really been an inspiring and thought-provoking challenge for me and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed going through it! If you would like to dive into this study, you can purchase the workbook here and you can watch the video series here!

Motion sickness

For me, ever since I was a child, a car ride has sometimes been a form of torture. It doesn’t take long before I start feeling really nauseous and am ready to pull over. Last year, I discovered that the car company Citroen came out with motion sickness glasses that create an artificial horizon using the blue liquid in the glasses and then the sensory conflict then disappears. They say you only need to wear them for about 10-12 minutes for them to take affect, but I have been keeping them on the whole trip, just in case. Fortunately, I have tinted windows, so people can’t see me in the goofy glasses…apart from last week, when I had a 5-minute conversation with someone forgetting that I was sporting them. 🙂 I did find some other versions of the glasses on Amazon for much cheaper, so I tried one of those, and have found that they greatly reduce my motion sickness. Here are both links for you to check out:

Citroen glasses – $118

Amazon glasses  – $18

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday and a great weekend!

Many blessings,

Rachel
